The importance of assessing soil structures was one of the topics discussed at a recent meeting organised by Opico and Townsend Tractors. Neil Robinson from Opico estimated around 60 per cent of all fields would be suffering from some kind of compaction and said it was a good idea to dig a sample of soil, about 50cm (20in) wide to a 40cm (16in) depth and examine the soil s structure which should have a round structure and should smell healthy'.
